John Lewis is planning a major push for Swedish food and drink with a showcase event in January.

The retailer is talking to the Swedish Trade Council about running a six-week trial of Swedish foods in two John Lewis Foodhall from Waitrose stores.

The product line-up is being finalised but could include Västerbottensost, an aged Swedish cheese similar to Cheddar, the crispbread Leksandsbröd and fat-free dressings.

The council hopes Waitrose will stock the products more widely if the trial is successful.
