Sales at A&S Stores have more than trebled since the company joined Spar.
A&S was formed in January from a management buyout at the Right Choice c-store chain after its parent Cellar 5 went into administration.
Simply putting the Spar name above the door, ensuring a steady supply of goods was getting to the stores and tinkering with ranging had boosted sales "more than threefold,"at the 24 store chain, said MD Andy Smallman.
"We've done a lot of work getting the ranging right and putting in fresh bread and hot pies."
The long-term plan is to convert all the stores to the full Spar Millennium Store format. Assuming the first trial refurbishment scheduled for four to six weeks is a success, A&S is working towards seven to eight refits this year, said Smallman.
A&S sold the bulk of the Right Choice estate to Midlands Spar wholesaler AF Blakemore, Lowries and Bargain Booze after the MBO, but retained 24 stores in the north of England, supplied by Spar wholesaler James Hall.
