Sainsbury has sent out letters to key suppliers asking them to outline their contingency plans in the event of a crisis as it ramps up its risk management strategy.
Speaking at a conference hosted by crisis management specialists Survive, Sainsbury business continuity manager Steve Mellish said he was targeting suppliers, "who should they fail, will have a major impact on us, our brand, or the core operation of our business".
Mellish is developing contingency plans for re-routing deliveries should disaster strike at one of JS's new fulfilment factories.
