JW Filshill is joining forces with Clydebank Co-operative Society to open a jointly branded c-store later this year.
In the first agreement of its kind between a wholesaler and a co-op, the store, in Knightswood, Glasgow, will be converted from a Spar and is expected to open in the autumn.
JW Filshill owns the KeyStore symbol fascia in Scotland, while Clydebank Co-op has seven stores in the Clydebank area.
“There are brands linking up all the time so there is no reason why complementary brands in the convenience store sector can’t do the same,” JW Filshill MD Simon Hannah told the Scottish Wholesale Association conference this week.
“It’s an exciting brand proposition for us and one that will get the industry talking and breathe new life into our sector. Both JW Filshill and Clydebank Co-op have similar values in that we are long-established, responsible and innovative retailers.”
Clydebank Co-op CEO Robert Sider added: “We have a long history of tradition and innovation and we see this development very much as evolution within our food business and, indeed, co-operative circles.”
