Tesco has launched a childrens' food range 18 months after it started a race to market with Sainsbury. It was due to launch a Kids@Tesco brand in February 2001, but that never materialised and it has only just started rolling out its revised Tesco Kids range into store. Tesco Kids launches as Sainsbury adds 20 further products to its successful Blue Parrot Café brand, launched in March 2001, bringing the total range up to 170 lines. Like Blue Parrot Cafe, Tesco Kids is a healthy, fun range targeted at five to 11 year olds. It includes more than 50 fresh, grocery, chilled and frozen products. Lines include smiley face pizza, garlic bread and breakfast boulders, as well as organic fruit. They will appear in store alongside similar mainstream products, and an advertising campaign will follow when roll- out is complete. Levels of salt, sugar and other additives have been kept low for Tesco Kids, and some 70 additives have been banned. Sainsbury Blue Parrot foods and groceries also have controlled preservatives, additives, fat and artificial colours. {{NEWS }}
