Budgens has dropped the Local name from its franchise scheme for independent retailers.
Although retailers already trading under Budgens Local would not have to invest in a new fascia, new entrants to the franchise scheme would simply trade as Budgens, said Budgens Local managing director Paul Mildenstein.
He said there was no
dramatic difference between the company-owned and franchised store offers. Budgens had recently sold a store to an independent retailer and it was still trading as Budgens, not as Budgens Local. So it had become clear the ‘Local’ was superfluous.
Separately, the company has developed a fascia and colour scheme for new stores of 3,000 sq ft or under, said Mildenstein. “It’s still Budgens, but it’s more of a teal colour and differentiates the c-stores from the supermarkets.”
There are currently 56 franchised stores, 38 of which trade as Budgens Local.
