Sir; I was interested to read about the survey probing the views of local people on new developments in their area (The Grocer, 17 March, p7).

The findings bear out our experience that many local people would welcome a new Tesco store. They tell us they welcome the contribution we make to their community in terms of investment, choice, value and creating jobs.

We know seasoned campaigners who oppose any development will speak out. But do they speak for people who can't drive to supermarkets in other towns or for families who rely on low prices?

I hope that as the debate continues, the views of these people will be heard.
