Musgrave Budgens Londis has opened a new concept store that relies on more than 30 local producers to keep shelves stocked.
The 4,000 sq ft franchised store opened this week at Broadway in the Cotswolds and is owned by local businessman Guy Warner.
Trading under the fascia Warner’s Budgens, it is a new concept, driven by a prominent emphasis on local sourcing.
With help from Budgens and Heart of England Fine Foods, Warner has joined forces with local producers to ensure that locally produced foods take pride of place in the store.
Point of sale material displays producer profiles and includes short stories to highlight products’ origins and traceability.
Producers deliver stock directly to the store, bypassing the central distribution hub, and significantly reducing food miles.
Warner, who also owns and runs two forecourt stores in the region, said: “Budgens is extremely supportive of British farmers and from the outset I felt this new store should serve as a showcase for the superb quality food and drink made in the immediate area.
“The store allows customers to shop locally in all senses, and gives all these small artisan producers a route to market.”
