The Cafe Convenience food to go concept is being launched north of the border. Mace wholesaler Aberness Foods is to trial the concept in its stores within the next few months after signing a deal with Betterton Consultancy. Cafe Convenience  the brainchild of Betterton's md John Thurley  is also being tested by Spar and northern convenience store chain Jackson's. The concept involves a 4m long self service unit housing branded food to go products from non competing manufacturers (The Grocer, Dec 4 1999, p11). Thurley said: "The might of the concept is the fact consumers are now able to satisfy their needs from an individual branded source rather than clambering throughout the entire store." He said that trials have demonstrated that Cafe Concept can generate at least £15,000 in extra profit for retailers. {{NEWS }}
