Makro is embracing social media marketing with an innovative promotion on Facebook.

In the first campaign of its kind by a wholesaler, Makro has launched 'Tag That Deal', where customers can tag themselves on the wholesaler's Facebook page for a chance to win products.

As part of the competition, which launched this week, the wholesaler will post pictures of five Makro products on its page over a two-week period. Customers tag themselves and a friend in the picture and then a winning pair will be picked at random. Prizes include a four-slice toaster, halogen oven, soup maker, knife block and 16-piece dinner set.

"At this time of VAT increases, Makro wants to reassure customers that we are here to support local businesses and will look for ways to help our customers in 2011," said Makro customer director Mark Copeland.

Makro has a strong following on Facebook, with 1,549 fans. It has also recently launched a blog and before Christmas ran a promotion on Twitter called 'Tweet-a-Price' allowing its followers to buy selected products at a reduced price determined by the number of re-tweets they passed on. Offers included a radio-controlled heli-racer truck for £19.99 and a Sony Vaio Notebook for £314.99.
