Makro plans to refurbish three more depots by the end of summer in the next phase of its Future Stores investment programme.

The refurbishment of the Enfield, Edinburgh and Reading depots began this week, with a further eight earmarked for development this autumn. The C&C giant has already revamped 13 sites under the programme, which is part of its strategy to reposition more towards hotel, restaurants and caterers.

"The revamp programme is a huge task, but forms a major part of our clear shift in strategy away from an 'all things to all businesses' approach to one that is tailored to the needs of our hotel, restaurant, catering and trade customers," said Makro MD Hannes Floto.

As part of the refurbishments, a walk-in cold room and large fresh fish department will be installed, more space will be dedicated to fresh produce and a complete overhaul will be given to grocery.
