Makro has shaken up its senior management team as it continues its drive to turn the business around.

Mark Copeland has been appointed to the newly created position of customer director, a role that will put customers at the heart of everything Makro does. Copeland has been recruited from SC Johnson & Son, where he had been regional marketing director for Europe, Mexico, Australasia and Japan since 2006.

Meanwhile, Allard Sjollema, previously director for food buying, has been promoted to commercial director, a role that adds non-food to his responsibilities. His promotion comes after Christoph Wackerbauer, director of non-food buying, left the company to work for a DIY business in Eastern Europe.

As part of its recovery plan, Makro has "stopped trying to be all things to all customers" and is instead trying to refocus the business on independent retailers and hotels, restaurants and caterers.

"The creation of the two new roles is a clear demonstration of our intention to put our customers at the forefront of our business," said managing director Hannes Floto. "Allard knows the business inside-out and was the natural candidate to drive this part of the

business forward, while Mark is bringing a vast amount of expertise and knowledge to his new role."

The directors will work together to drive forward two of Makro's key initiatives to reach out to its core customers - Love The Pub and a new venture, Every Day Takeaway.
