Marks and Spencer will open its second Simply Food motorway service station in November.
The store will be sited at the Moto M40 Cherwell Valley services after a successful trial on the M1 in Toddington.
Under the deal with the Compass subsidiary, Simply Food stores could be rolled out across the 47-strong Moto estate. A Marks and Spencer spokesman said: “Simply Food at Toddington has been a success so we are extending the trial by opening another store.”
The opening could affect a Guild of Fine Food Retailers’ deal with Moto to provide UK speciality foods at service stations. The Taste British Gold range has been on trial at five sites, but plans to extend it have been put on hold because the new M& S store will replace a farm shop where the foods had proved popular.
Speaking after a review meeting this week, guild director Bob Farrand said: “This took us by surprise. This was one of the most successful sites but at the present it looks as if it won’t continue.”
