Marks & Spencer is the most highly regarded company in the UK, according to a survey by the Confederation of British Industry.

The retailer topped the list, gaining twice as many mentions as second-placed company John Lewis Partnership - the parent company of Waitrose.

Supermarket chains Tesco and Asda also made it into the top ten in fourth and sixth place respectively.

“M&S has coupled great products and customer service with an ambitious but credible environmental and ethical campaign, Plan A,” said CBI director-general Richard Lambert.
