Bishop was a marketing manager at Costcutter from 2000 to 2001 and has also held senior roles at Booker, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Star Sportswear.
He is joined in the marketing department by Jenny Holmes, who takes on the role of retail marketing manager. She was previously employed at Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds-based agency Banana Kick.
They will both spearhead Costcutter's new brand strategy 'Proud to be Local', which was revealed by the company this week in new television commercials.
"2011 represents both exciting and challenging times for the sector and never before has brand cut-through been more significant," said Bishop, adding that there was a "plethora of new and high profile brand developments on the horizon".
