Hilton Food Group said it had defied “challenging conditions for the consumer” and “continued to grow the business” in its latest trading statement.

The meat packer, which supplies retailers including Tesco, said it had made “good progress” in Western Europe. Group debt had increased “in line with management expectations” due to investment in the company’s new plant in Denmark.

“Overall, Hilton is encouraged by the start to the current financial year,” the company said. “We will continue to explore opportunities to grow the business in both domestic and overseas markets.”
