Tesco is expanding its move into petrol retailing in the Irish Republic, winning approval for a second Dublin filling station despite vigorous opposition from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
The new station at the Clearwater shopping centre in Finglas has been sanctioned by the Planning Board, which had earlier given the go-ahead for one in Sandyford. The board has still to decide on two others planned by Tesco in Maynooth, Co Kildare, and Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
Tesco's first station, which opened last year in Killarney, is now selling leaded and unleaded fuel well below average Irish prices.
