Asda and Morrisons are once again slashing the price of staple items to 50p this weekend.

Asda claimed it is part of a move to cut the price of 3,000 items a week during the summer. After sparking the 50p price war last month, Asda has eggs, sausages and butter as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, including mangoes, lettuce and kiwis on sale for 50p. Bananas were not among the reduced products.

Morrisons has again responded, after its barbecue deal last week, with a 50p deal on eight items that together, for £4, will feed six to eight people, said boss Marc Bolland.
