Morrisons was named best fresh produce retailer at the annual Re:fresh industry awards.

Judges praised the supermarket which beat off finalists Aldi and Booths for putting fresh produce at the heart of its strategy.

Budgens saw off competition from Musgrave, Londis and Nisa-Today's to be named convenience retailer of the year, while Wareings of Tarleton won best independent retailer.

Other winners included Wealmoor as overall produce trader, Capespan as best 5-a-day supporter, Greenvale for best innovation and Albert Bartlett for best marketing campaign.
