Morrisons outperformed its Big Four rivals over the Christmas period, trading figures out this week are expected to show.
Morrisons will this week announce Christmas sales up 8%, after data from Nielsen showed the retailer had achieved growth of 9% for the four-week period.
Tesco last week unveiled a modest rise of 2.5% in like-for-like sales over Christmas, while Sainsbury's reported growth of 4.5% in a strong third quarter.
Asda, which has not released official figures, is thought to have achieved growth of around 7%.
Earlier this month Morrisons announced plans that would create 5,000 new jobs at fresh meat, fish and bakery counters as part of a drive to develop its 'fresh for you everyday' proposition.
