Our mystery shopper this week reported the same impressive performance from store manager Paul Chapman and his team: spotless aisles, well arranged product and helpful, knowledgeable staff.
The Metro Park Asda in Gateshead was well signed and easy to shop in. Our shopper found the layout of the fruit and vegetable section particularly attractive.
Our shopper at Somerfield in Crawley, West Sussex, had a mixed experience. He was unable to find a trolley so was forced to use a basket instead. On the other hand, the checkout assistant, who was wearing a Chelsea FC replica jersey, did not charge him for the Nescafé coffee in his basket.
The Station Road Tesco in Yate, Bristol, depressed our mystery shopper. She found it dark and poorly laid out, with "too much product and not enough space".
Our shopper at the Waitrose store in Blaby, Leicestershire, said it was well organised and easy to shop in. However, he was thrown by the placement of the vegetable section at the end of the shop next to the cheeses.
The aisles of the Marshall Lake Sainsbury's in Birmingham were cluttered when our shopper visited. She also said the floor of the vegetable section was very dirty.
