Tesco, Asda and Waitrose will close their stores on the morning of the Queen Mother's funeral, Tuesday April 9. Tesco and Asda stores will shut between 10.30am and 1pm. In addition, Tesco said it would put back publication of its annual results by a day. They had been due to be disclosed on April 9. Waitrose outlets will close all morning, opening when the funeral ends at 2pm. Stores will be staffed normally and employees will be allowed to watch the funeral service on tv. Waitrose parent John Lewis will also close its stores. Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership Sir Stuart Hampson said: "Our decision is particularly appropriate because two of our department stores, as well as Waitrose, hold Royal Warrants from the late Queen Mother. She was a very special customer." Sainsbury, Safeway and Somerfield stores will be observing two minutes' silence at 11.30am. Sainsbury is also allowing staff to watch the funeral on television. Somerfield has cancelled fun days and events planned for April 9 and will switch off its instore music for the day. {{NEWS }}
