Sainsbury strengthens Partnership work Sainsbury has released full details of the beefing up of its Partnership in Livestock scheme in response to the foot and mouth crisis. "We recognise the part Sainsbury can play in helping to restore the fortunes of the British livestock sector," says group chief executive Sir Peter Davis in his foreword to the brochure. The aim, with the usual features of assurance, traceability, product integrity and environmental protection, is to "ensure equality and transparency in the supply chain and that competitive options exist for farmers". Partnership groups involving all farmers who supply livestock will be set up and managed by the processors. A regular programme of visits by Sainsbury to farms and by farmers to plants and stores will be organised including Walk the Chain events and Buddy Stores. Sainsbury will support selected projects initiated by processors and their farmers which assist in improving competitiveness. A partnership manager is to be appointed soon. {{MEAT }}
