The stores have all been rebadged as Budgens and are being run by Musgrave GB until they are sold to independent retailers. Rumours had circulated that Musgrave GB was struggling to sell the stores, but this was denied by the wholesaler. "As the rebranding has only just been completed, the process of selling to independents is still in its early stages," a spokeswoman said.
The 13 stores were closed for four days to be deep-cleaned, stocked and to train staff on new systems and routines. Each store opening was supported with a local marketing campaign, including a Tesco 'price match' at point-of-sale, exclusive offers, press and radio advertising. The stores are to introduce and market local products.
