Queen of Hearts, the branded and own label cakes supplier, has recruited Waitrose bakery buyer Jon Neale to fill the new role of sales and marketing director.
He joined Somerfield in 1996 as a graduate trainee, working within trade marketing and buying before moving to Waitrose in 1999. His main buying responsibilities there covered instore bakery, sliced bread, ambient cake and seasonal products.
He was particularly responsible for the growth of Waitrose’s ambient cake sales.
Neale said: “Waitrose gave me the opportunity to combine blue sky thinking with my commercial background, challenging existing manufacturing models.”
