Nestlé is using three of its star confectionery brands to move into a new arena  cakes. Manufactured under licence by Hazlewood Foods, the three packaged chocolate cakes  After Eight, Smarties and Wonka Nerds  follow the arrival of Yorkie, Rolo and Rowntree branded muffins in August. The oblong-shaped After Eight cake (rsp: £6.49) has a peppermint fondant filling and dark chocolate coating, while the two others, at £6.99 each, are 7-inch circles designed as celebration cakes for children. The Smarties cake with chocolate butter cream filling and decorated with smarties and edible sugar-paste heads, hands and feet, has been designed to look like a ball pool. The Wonka Nerds Scrumdiddlyumptious cake has a WIlly Wonka figure on top and contains a snozzberry' (mixed fruit) flavour buttercream filling. Brand manager Jan Jarvis said these brands translated well into cake format. "Even if people bake cakes at home, these have novelty features that would be impossible to reproduce," she added. {{P&P }}
