Budgens opened a Newitt-branded deli counter at its store in Woodbridge, Suffolk, on Monday, and said it would open another 15 such counters by the end of the year.
The Woodbridge opening brings to 18 the number of Budgens deli counters operated by the Newitt family, which owns a fine food store in Thame.
The family opened its first counter at Budgens in July 2003 at Chalfont St Peter. And, as revealed by The Grocer, they will eventually run two thirds of Budgens’ 65 counters [The Grocer, March 12, p64].
James Newitt, who looks after the family’s business with Budgens, said: “The partnership is creating greater customer loyalty and we know from feedback that people shop at Budgens because of the deli.”
