"Disappointing" was the verdict of The Grocer 33's mystery shopper sent to check out Asda Wal-Mart's new supercentre at Patchway, Bristol. Razzmatazz and high standards were top of the wish list but this just wasn't the case. Two sections got the thumbs up  wine and electrical goods  which our shopper thought most impressive, as was the personalised till receipt. But despite being a new store, trolleys were very old and dented, and squeezing through the aisles was difficult because they were four to five deep in customers, "men in suits" and shelf stackers. Asda's out of stocks record also received a knock as many gaps were noticed on shelves and from our list of 33 items, three were missing. While staff were very helpful in trying to locate products and give information, they were unable to advise whether goods were available or where they should be located because they had been drafted in from other stores and were unfamiliar with the store layout. Making a speedy exit wasn't on the cards either with a 90 minute shopping trip including 10 minutes at the checkout. But our shopper was relieved to have done the shop early as the traffic trying to get into the car park was stacked up to the motorway. {{NEWS }}
