Judging by recent national press reports, Tesco is fast achieving its ambition of becoming a globally recognised brand.

Unfortunately, there's a downside to such fame. After revelations that the multiple had designs on India, one paper sported a picture of a store in Negumbo, Sri Lanka, boasting a familiar blue and red Tesco sign.

But before rumours of further expansion started to spread like wildfire, the publication in question was quick to point out that the UK supermarket chain could make a case for trademark infringement.

That's the trouble with being popular. So many copycats want a slice of the action.
