Nisa-Today’s has said there is no truth in industry rumours that Somerfield chairman John von Spreckelsen is in line to become the buying group’s chairman.
Key industry sources, including Nisa wholesale and retail members, have told The Grocer that von Spreckelsen, who is a non-executive director of Nisa-Today’s, is understood to be eyeing the role.
Somerfield refused to comment, while a spokesman for Nisa-Today’s said: “There is absolutely no substance to these rumours.”
Von Spreckelsen’s link with Nisa-Today’s was put under the spotlight last month when a letter he wrote to current chairman Dudley Ramsden, expressing concerns about the organisation, was leaked to the press.
Nisa-Today’s also denied rumours that Ramsden had plans to retire from the company by the end of next year.
Sainsbury has launched a new training initiative called Scan School. Two double-decker resource buses will tour 200 stores across the country before Christmas.
