Online retailer Ocado is reportedly planning to open a distribution centre in the north of England.

It is looking for a 20-acre site capable of delivering about £1bn worth of orders a year to allow it to expand across the north of England and into Scotland, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.

Ocado currently operates out of a single distribution centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Earlier this month, accounts filed at Companies House for the 53 weeks to 3 December 2006 revealed a pre-tax loss of £43m, down from £45.5m the year before.
