Costcutter has launched distribution trials, enabling deliveries of ambient, frozen and chilled products to be done in a single drop from one van.
The retailer said the move was a deliberate attempt to emulate the multiples, providing a one-stop shop for its retail members.
“Part of the multiples’ success is due to their central distribution facilities,” said sales and development director David Thompson, adding that the trial would focus on 20 stores in the south east and last for three months.
“This will involve a shift in retailers’ culture, so we need to test the system in a few stores before we go any further.”
Deliveries are being consolidated and managed by Nisa-Today’s from its depots in Scunthorpe, Stoke-on-Trent and Harlow.
