Many food and drink retailers are failing to make the most of their core customers by not offering them key non-food services, according to HI Europe’s Omnibus report.
It shows that Waitrose, The Co-op Group and Budgens are all missing out. Almost three quarters of The Co-op Group’s shoppers said they would buy clothing from its stores, while more than half of Waitrose’s shoppers would do the same. A significant number said they would also buy jewellery. Further opportunities exist for Budgens to offer credit card services.
The research suggests Asda beats other grocery chains in winning its customers’ support in key non-food categories.
