A major focus on own-label products has helped Londis record a 4% increase in full-year like-for-like sales.

Londis's retail sales in 2006 hit £1.2bn, according to the company, thanks to a relaunch in September of its own-label premium range of more than 400 products and the expansion of its offer into chilled and fresh areas.

More than 70 own-label products were launched in fresh produce last year, as well as a range of sandwiches and wraps.

The chain also invested £8.5m in the refurbishment of 171 of its 2,000 stores and concentrated on "significantly improving" store formats, logistics and supply chain management.
