Oxfam is to start selling food products at tills following successful trials.

The charity trialled counter top units for Divine chocolate bars in two areas late last year and, following successful feedback, the units are now being rolled out.

The units were part of a push by Oxfam to raise awareness to shoppers that it sells food and drink products, as well as health & beauty and household cleaning products in about 200 of its 700 stores, said Oxfam buying manager Inma Andres. It currently has between 50 and 60 food lines in stores, with food sales of about £1m a year.

“We’re working with our suppliers to try and find ways to make food more widely available,” she added.
