Mace distributor Palmer & Harvey said it wanted to establish a close relationship with Somerfield following its acquisition of Aberness.
P& H has the distribution rights to the Mace brand in England and Wales, and Somerfield has inherited the rights for Scotland. P&H executive chairman Christopher Adams said P&H wanted to co-operate closely with Somerfield on marketing the Mace brand.
He said: “The preservation and growth of the Mace brand and attraction of new retailers require investment. Somerfield and P&H will have to support the brand in the same way.” Meanwhile, Mace-supplied Scottish independent Morning Noon & Night said it was reviewing its options.
Marketing director Stephen Thompson said talks were under way with Somerfield about distribution for its estate. MN&N was committed to keeping its own name above the door.
