Green initiatives at Waitrose's new store in York are so virtuous that the retailer was blessed with a visit from the city's Archbishop as it opened for business. Dr John Sentamu got on one of Waitrose's free-to-use cycle trailers to show his approval for the store's efforts to cut down the environmental impacts of modern-day supermarket shopping, which also include electric chargers in two car parking spaces and HFC-free fridges in store.
