Domino’s Pizza has announced a healthy rise in sales for the third quarter, as former Tesco man Lance Batchelor gears up to take the helm.

UK like-for-like sales for the 13 weeks to 25 September were up almost 4%, with total sales at the pizza delivery chain hitting £385.4m for the year to date.

“We are pleased to have had a good quarter's trading and, although the economy as a whole is still very tough, we have got exciting plans in place for the rest of the year,” said chief executive Chris Moore. “We are on track and confident we will finish the year in line with market expectations.”

News of the performance comes with Batchelor, who quit as boss of Tesco Mobile in January, poised to take charge at the beginning of next year.

“Lance has made excellent progress since he joined as deputy chief executive and, combined with the experience he gained as a non-executive director of the company, is ready to take the reins in three months’ time,” Moore added.
