Mary Portas will this week hold face-to-face talks with Tesco’s UK chief executive, Richard Brasher.
The discussions mark the first move by the retail guru in her review of the British high street.
As revealed by The Grocer last month, Portas was asked by the coalition government to head up an independent enquiry into the retail scene. She has previously been a critic of Tesco’s impact on independent retailers.
“There is no point in me coming [to the review] with a sledge hammer,” she told the Financial Times.
“I want to hear and listen to their plans and what they will be happening. These guys have been in the retail business for many years and are terribly sophisticated it.”
Tesco said: “We are looking forward to sharing our views and experience of the high street.”
