Discount retailer Poundland has appointed Cathy Ferrier as trading director to help continue the recent dramatic growth of the business.
Since chief executive officer Dave Dodd led last year's management buy out of Poundland it has opened 14 new stores and doubled operating profits in the 15 months to April, the company said.
Sales for the current year are expected to exceed £200m and there are 25 new stores scheduled to open between now and April 2004, making 111 total stores, it added.
Ferrier will work with the rest of the management team with the aim of doubling the size of the business over the next three years. She will be responsible for buying, merchandising and promotions and takes up her post at the end of this month.
Dodd said: "I am delighted that Cathy is joining Poundland. Her skills in forecasting consumer trends and strategic and creative approach to merchandising will make a significant contribution to the Poundland customer offer."
Ferrier has 20 years' retail experience gained at the Burton Group and the Walt Disney Company, where she was European vice-president for consumer products.
