Union officials have expressed relief that Premier Foods has mothballed three bakery sites rather getting rid of them permanently.
Premier closed its Plymouth and Bradford bakeries and scaled down its Telford distribution centre last year with the loss of 600 jobs.
However, Premier CEO Robert Schofield had some good news for former workers at the company's results a fortnight ago. "We are not selling them and will reintroduce them as we require the volume," he said.
Joe Marino, general secretary of the Bakers Food & Allied Workers Union said: "If this results in the factories reopening then it's fantastic news," he said.
