Safeway could face a break-up of its UK joint venture with fuel group BP.
The Business said that Safeway and BP have equal shares in the 60-site JV, in which BP petrol stations are branded as Safeway convenience stores.
The paper said that BP wants to pull out of the deal as part of a wider plan to bring its retail formats under its BP Connect brand.

The Sunday Telegraph said Morrisons would have a market share of 15.6% if its anticipated bid for rival Safeway comes off. Market leader Tesco has 27%, Asda 16.7% and Sainsbury 16%.
