Asda’s chief operating officer, Richard Baker, has emerged as a leading contender to take over as chief executive of high street chemist Boots, the Times said without citing sources.
Boots is to appoint a new chief executive within the next fortnight to replace Steve Russell.

The paper also said that Woolworths is to rebrand its Ladybird children’s clothing range for the first time in four decades. The name is being retained, but the logo will be updated from July as it competes against rivals such as Adams, Mothercare and Next.

The Observer reported that Tetra Pak magnate Jörn Rausing has invested £15m in Ocado, the online shopping service backed by the John Lewis Partnership which delivers groceries from Waitrose to homes in and around Hertfordshire as well as north and south London.
