Sainsbury is to axe fashion designer Jeff Banks who was appointed three years ago to take control of adult clothing at the chain. Banks has dismissed as “complete fabrication” that he and Sainsbury group chief executive Sir Peter Davis had “fallen out”. Banks claimed that the report was a smokescreen to terminate his contract “without having to pay compensation”.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury is set to announce that it will cut salt in its foods after evidence that high intake leads to a higher death rate, The Observer said.
