North East Convenience Stores has posted a 33.5% hike in full-year profits.

Pre-tax profits jumped from £308,709 to £412,144 in the year to 30 November 2011, on sales up 17.4% to £13.8m, according to accounts filed at Companies House. The chain, which won Independent Retailer of the Year award at this year’s Grocer Gold Awards, said its results had been boosted by the acquisition of stores in the Hartlepool area.

“We have continued to invest in the chain’s physical development and continued to invest time and effort on staff training, marketing, advertising and promotion, and developing key supplier relationships,” director Sanjeev Vadhera wrote in the accounts.
