Growers will receive a boost next week when Budgens becomes the first retailer to adopt the Red Tractor Promise Campaign, developed by the National Farmers’ Union last year.
Budgens will launch the campaign in-store on June 9, initially on packs of strawberries and raspberries. It is based on pledges made by farmers and processors relating to the way their products are produced.
Packs of berries will feature four promises, including: “I promise to check every pack before it leaves the farm,” made by James Knaggs of Newmafruit Farms, and: “I promise to deliver only the freshest fruit to you,” by Carole Hodgkins of Wellpak.k
