Somerfield is turning to its staff for help in recruiting new store managers for Somerfield and Kwik Save outlets, offering the incentive of a £1,000 tax-free bonus for staff members who make successful external nominations. The staff newspaper invited readers to submit nominations from among rival retail employees to stand a chance of qualifying for the bonanza. The recruitment round has a target of 160 store managers designate to meet for the two fascias and it is being led by resourcing manager Anita Lee, in consultation with HR directors Carolyn McMenemie for Somerfield and Andy Holgate at Kwik Save. The campaign involves instore posters and newspaper ads in addition to internal advertising. Although the two fascias have different requirements, there are some qualities that the recruiters are looking for in each set of applicants. Lee says: "Food retailing experience, a great communications ability and self-motivation top the list. Each candidate will be assessed by our recruitment consultants at a regional centre and the successful recruits will undertake a structured training programme before being placed in their own stores."
