Tesco has appointed Alistair Robinson to lead its new regional sourcing office for the north. He will be moving to the York-based office after more than 21 years at Tesco. "This is the most exciting job I've ever done," said Robinson. "The brief is to get as much local produce onto shelf and find the best way of doing that." Robinson joined as a graduate in distribution and worked in depots before moving to head office in a stock management and logistics role for non-food and then grocery. Robinson has been a buyer for more than 10 years and has covered various categories, including cereal, pet food and jams, preserves and home baking. Most recently, Robinson was working on an IT project within the commercial team. The York office is the fifth of six new regional units that Tesco has been rolling out since September. The sixth is scheduled to open in the Midlands in October.
