Irish director of consumer affairs Carmel Foley has rejected a complaint into Tesco Ireland's pricing policy lodged by independents' lobby group RGDATA. The news comes as Tesco launches a fresh round of price cuts it claims will cut a basket of 90 branded and own label goods by an average of 14%. In May, RGDATA called for an investigation into Tesco's promotional pricing policy and accused it of slashing prices with great fanfares of publicity in January and quietly hiking them up again afterwards. RGDATA director general Ailish Forde blasted Tesco for "making outlandish and inaccurate claims about prices to consumers". Foley responded: "I am satisfied there is no breach of legislation." Tesco said: "On key core foods, we are cheaper than we were a year ago." {{NEWS }}
