The Competition Authority said multiple supermarkets could make improvements in Ireland's supply chain which would be unattainable by smaller players. "We do not seek to oppose improvements in efficiency  such as Tesco's use of its own containers for the supply of fruit and vegetables  but rather look for the growth opportunities they create," said the report. It added the challenge to Irish suppliers and distributors is to "make themselves indispensable to any retailer operating in the Irish market, not because they are Irish, but because they are better." {{NEWS }}
